CASE STUDY
Traditionally, Sauwat Strategy’s projects have been built upon three sectors: Food, Education, and Entertainment. Since the pandemic began, Singapore began to search for alternative food sources from new geographies, and Sauwat Strategy sought to answer this pain point by initiating a project to bring organic food products from Central Asia, mainly from Kazakhstan to Southeast Asia (SEA).
Through business partnerships with Business Engineers Asia, Sauwat Strategy grew confidence in the Singapore Incubation program that enables businesses to place food products in popular online marketplaces such as RedMart, NTUC FairPrice, ZeeMart.
It is well known that SMEs are reluctant to take the risk to enter new foreign markets without government subsidies. Therefore, Sauwat Strategy reached out to QazTrade, the government export-oriented agency of Kazakhstan, to share about opportunities in SEA. We engaged QazTrade to create knowledge sharing online webinars targeting Kazakhstani food producers.
We conducted Knowledge Sharing programs in collaboration with Business Engineers Asia, QazTrade, and Aidahar Asia to spread awareness among Kazakhstani food producers about the potential of exporting to Singapore through the Singapore Incubation program.
What is the Singapore Incubation program? It is a program that enables producers to sell directly to consumers on Singapore’s online marketplaces such as RedMart, ZeeMart, NTUC Fairprice, while maintaining full control over the setting of prices. The program helps businesses quickly enter market with various SKUs and identify the best sellers and customer segments based on real sales data captured in the period of 6 – 9 months. This valuable data can further help in selecting other entry markets in SEA.
Sauwat Strategy plays a strategic consultant role to minimize any uncertainties and make the process smooth.
Through three online webinars conducted in 2020, Sauwat Strategy has reached out to 35 Kazakh food companies to advice on business solutions to enter Singapore’s market, and has set up an incubator program with Business Engineers Asia to bring Kazakh products to Singapore. At this stage, Sauwat Strategy is in negotiation process with several food producers from Central Asia.
